Searching for Books

Quick Search – The Fastest Way to Start

Not sure where to begin? Quick Search is your go-to tool—simple, smart, and fast.

How it works:

  1. 1 Type a few keywords into the search box
    • Book title (e.g. Marketing Management)
    • Author name (e.g. Kotler)
    • Topic (e.g. digital marketing)
  2. 2 Click Search or press Enter
  3. 3 Browse your results!

You can search by:

Keyword Title Author Subject ISBN

Tip: “Keyword” is best if you’re just starting out!

Pro Search Tips

Use 2–4 keywords instead of full sentences.
Don’t worry about perfect spelling—OPAC will suggest similar results!

Advanced Search – When You Want More Accuracy

Use Advanced Search when you need precise results—perfect for research, assignments, or tracking down a specific title.

Use it when:

  • You get too many results
  • You are looking for a specific book
  • You know some details already

Refine your search by:

Title Author Subject Publication year Material type

Combine fields for powerful searches:

  • • Title + Author
  • • Subject + Publisher
  • • ISBN or ISSN
  • • Publication year

Use Boolean operators:

Try “AND,” “OR,” or “NOT” to refine your query.
Example: climate change AND policy

Real Example

Looking for a finance book published after 2020?
Advanced Search will save you time.

Click “Catalog Search” on the OPAC homepage to get started!

Understanding Search Results

After you search, OPAC displays a list of books that match your keywords. Each result shows key information at a glance:

  • • Title – click it to see full details
  • • Author
  • • Year of publication
  • • Availability
    • Available – you can borrow it now
    • On loan – the book is currently borrowed
  • • Location – where to find the book in the Library
  • • Call Number – helps you locate the book on the shelf

Always check availability before coming to the Library.

Click any title to view full details, including:

  • Book summary
  • Table of contents (if available)
  • Item status and copy information

Narrowing Down Your Results

Too many results? Use filters on the left-hand side of the results page to refine your list.

You can filter by:

Availability Author Library / Collection Material type Publisher Publication year

How it helps:

  • Quickly reduce long result lists
  • Focus on books that are available now
  • Find books from a specific author or subject area

Smart Tip

Start by selecting “Available” to see only books you can borrow immediately!

Book Details Page

Clicking a book title opens the Book Details Page — your complete overview of that item.

Here you can:

  • Read the book description
  • See how many copies the Library has
  • Check if the book is available or on loan
  • Find its exact location on the shelf

You can also:

  • Save the book to Your Lists
  • Copy citation information (if available)

Before you go to the shelves…

Always check the location and availability on this page first!
