1. Introduction

Welcome to the British University Vietnam (BUV) Library. This guide is designed to help you make the most of our resources and services. The library is your central hub for academic support, offering a wide range of materials, digital resources, and study spaces to enhance your learning experience.

2. Services Overview

The BUV Library provides:

  • Book lending services
  • Access to digital resources and databases
  • Printing and photocopying facilities
  • Individual and group study areas
  • Computer access for research and academic work

Our goal: To support your academic journey by providing the resources and environment you need to succeed.

3. Eligibility

3.1 Who Can Use the Library?

  • Current BUV students, faculty, and staff
  • Visiting researchers & guests (limited access)
⚠️ Alumni Access Note: Alumni can visit the library but do not have remote access to e-resources due to licensing agreements.

3.2 Access Requirements

  • Use the Campus Central app for borrowing books.
  • Use your BUV email & credentials for digital resources.

4. Library Location & Opening Hours

4.1 Location

The Library is located on Level 3 of the Building A at BUV’s Ecopark Campus.

4.2 Opening Hours

5. Rules and Regulations

To maintain a productive learning environment, please adhere to the following rules:

5.1 General Respect

  • Maintain a quiet and respectful environment.
  • Speak English in designated study areas.
  • Avoid disruptive behavior (e.g., loud talking, gaming).
  • Evacuate promptly during emergencies.

5.2 Care for Facilities and Materials

  • Do not deface or damage books or facilities.
  • Return all materials in good condition.

5.3 Computer and Internet Use

  • Save work to USB or cloud storage — files are deleted after each session.
  • Accessing inappropriate content is strictly prohibited.

5.4 Personal Belongings

The library is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Do not leave belongings unattended.

5.5 Sleeping

Sleeping in the library is not permitted.

5.6 Mobile Devices and Audio

  • Keep phones on silent mode.
  • Use headphones at low volume.

5.7 Food and Drink

Only bottled water is allowed. Food and open drinks are prohibited. Smoking is strictly forbidden.

5.8 Unauthorized Removal of Materials

Attempting to remove books without authorization is a serious offense and may result in disciplinary action.

5.9 Copyright and Copying Limits

All photocopying must comply with British and international copyright law:

  • Up to 5% of a book, or one chapter
  • One article from a journal or newspaper
  • One paper from conference proceedings
  • One case from law reports
  • Short literary works under 10 pages
  • Up to 10% of a British Standard for private study
  • No copying of audio-visual materials

6. Facilities and Space

The library provides:

  • Computers
  • Discussion rooms
  • A computer lab
  • Printer
  • Self-checkout station

6.1 Computer Access

Library computers are for academic use only (research, assignments, Canvas access).

iMac Login: Use “BUV User” (no password required). Press Enter to access.

6.2 Printing and Photocopying

  • Each student receives 378 pages per semester.
  • No limit on scanning.
  • Credits do not roll over.
  • Account resets automatically each semester.

6.3 Study Areas

  • Individual Study Areas: Quiet zones for focused study. Silence is expected.
  • Group Study Rooms: Bookable spaces for collaboration, equipped with screens and tables.

7. Library Collections

Access print books, e-books, journals, articles, reports, and more — available on and off campus.

7.1 Print Books

7.1.1 Overview

The library houses over 5,000 print books across subjects including business, computing, law, management, HR, economics, and English.

7.1.2 Finding Books

  1. Define your subject area.
  2. Check the call number system.
  3. Locate the shelf using signage.

7.1.3 Borrowing Policy

  • Borrow via the Campus Central app.
  • Overdue items cannot be renewed.
  • Students on deferred status cannot borrow.

Returning & Fines

Items not returned within 30 days are considered lost. All fees must be settled before further borrowing.
